Though Brookhaven is a new city in the Atlanta metropolitan area, incorporated in 2012, the community is graced with historic homes and established businesses. With a population of around 49,000, it is the largest city in DeKalb County and stretches over 12 square miles. With its spacious homes and renowned schools, Brookhaven is a sought-after address for families.
 

Things To Do

Residents of Brookhaven enjoy shopping at Town Brookhaven, which houses dozens of restaurants, shops, services, salons, a fitness center, a movie theater, Costco, and Publix. With its close proximity to Buford Highway, residents also have access to numerous ethnic restaurants and stores. Brookhaven’s largest park, Murphy Candler Park, offers multi-use athletic fields, a swimming pool, playground and picnic areas, and a lake for fishing on its 135 acres. The city hosts the Brookhaven Chili Cook-Off and the Brookhaven Arts Festival each fall. In the spring and summer, the Brookhaven Farmers Market offers locally-grown produce and other products. During the summertime, food trucks line the streets along with live music in Blackburn Park, which many residents enjoy walking to. With one of the largest stations on the MARTA rail line, residents have quick access to Downtown Atlanta and Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

Other popular residential areas of Brookhaven include Ashford Park, Brookhaven Village, Drew Valley, Lynwood Park, Murphey Candler/Nancy Creek, Brittany/Cambridge Park/Hampton Hall, and Brookhaven Fields/Brookhaven Heights/Hillsdale.
 

Education

DeKalb County School System operates the public schools serving Brookhaven. Elementary schools include Ashford Park Elementary, Montclair Elementary, Montgomery Elementary, and Woodward Elementary. The public secondary schools serving the city are Cross Keys High School and Chamblee Charter High School. PATH Academy, a charter school, is also located in Brookhaven. Oglethorpe University lies within Brookhaven city limits, as well as Georgia State University’s Brookhaven satellite campus for the Robinson College of Business MBA program.
